NEW WAYS OF SEEING
School of Cyborg & Evie Edwards
Saturday 6 November, 2:00pm - 3:30pm
Kathryn Rattray Gallery
The School of Cyborg presents New Ways of Seeing, with artist Evie Edwards. The workshop aimed to appreciate digital art by learning and using the digital tools to create and discover art works under the guidance of digital artists and curators.
We engaged in looking at digital art, thinking about questions on the role of digital arts in the culture field and ways of seeing it, keeping it, collecting it.
‘New Ways of Seeing’ was a 90 minutes workshop to introduce you to the realm of digital art. The workshop was oriented towards inclusivity and accessibility, aligning with SoC’s aim to engage with local community groups and address the digital gender divide.
In this workshop, Evie Edwards shared her knowledge and techniques gained over several years in the field of art. Throughout the workshop, we took the time to review and discuss digital works of art. In line with NEoN's Wired Women * theme, we focused on and highlighted women's digital art *.
This event happened both online and in-person. The in-person event at the Kathryn Ratray Gallery was for an invited audience due to access limitations.
About the Artists
The School of Cyborg (SoC) program looks at women*, technology, and digital art in a post-gendered world, coding an identity that lies at the intersection between the individual and the collective. The SoC considers gender to be beyond the binary male / female definitions. Therefore, we understand the term women* to be inclusive of Trans and Intersex women and those who identify as non-binary and gender, ultimately promoting the freedom of identity and expression.
Evie Edwards is a recent Fine Art (Art Practice and History of Art) graduate, living and working in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her multidisciplinary practice includes film, animation, print, text and sculpture, and often explores concepts of paradox, imitation, romanticism and humour. She is driven by the prospect of learning new skills and techniques and is particularly interested in combining traditional methods of art making with innovative technologies. Edwards' work has recently been selected as part of Circa's 'Class of 2020' and shortlisted for The Edge Visions of Science Art Prize 2020.
