NEON 12 LAUNCH

To celebrate the start of this year's NEoN festival we bring you the NEoN Launch Party; a day of physical and virtual fun centered in Tay Square. This year the NEoN Launch Party kicks off from 2 pm on Sunday 4th November, with Dundee’s Tay Square playing host to visual displays, interactive pigs, and plenty of opportunities to explore and be entertained by digital technology. This is a free, casual event, tickets are not necessary, so drop by and experience an event with a difference! The Launch Party will also feature tasty pre-premier food and drinks to increase your appetites for our HEADLINING EVENTS:

4 PM – DROP IN AND PLAY! – AT DCA

A showcase of independent game-related projects in Dundee’s DCA, offering a chance to meet local and international game designers, find out about their inspirations and be the first to play some brand new games! Drop-in and Play will feature games from some of Scotland’s leading independent games producers Lucky Frame and Quartic Llama, who will be sharing their insights into the industry. Internationally renowned games creator and author Dr. Pippin Barr will also be joining us from Malta for this year’s festival and will appear at Drop in and Play to share his games and expertise at Dundee Contemporary Arts. In addition to this, we are delighted to announce that award-winning games company Denki, will also be showcasing their latest release – fun and frantic helicopter rescue game Save the Day.

Save the Day is a frantic race against time to be the hero and save the innocents.
This a free event, tickets are not necessary so if you fancy yourself as a bit of a Gaming Geek –Drop in and Play, take on the experts, can you Save the Day?

7PM – INDIE GAME THE MOVIE – AT DCA

For those who wish to immerse themselves further into indie game culture, the NEoN Launch Party will also feature a specialist screening of Indie Game the Movie, held at DCA after the Drop in and Play session. This inspiring documentary follows the trials, tribulations, and successes of three separate independent games and their creators and is brought to NEoN in partnership with the DCA and Discovery Film Festival. A must-see for those involved or aspiring to be in the games industry. Screening begins at 7 pm.

“I contributed to its funding and was very pleased with how it turned out.”

7.30 PM – ONE PIG – AT DUNDEE REP THEATRE

NEoN is also pleased to announce Dundee’s premier showing of critically acclaimed musician Matthew Herbert’s One Pig show to Dundee’s Rep Theatre. Following on from Herbert’s 2011 album of the same name, One Pig tells the story of a “single farm animal's life, from birth to plate, in an otherwise anonymous food chain.” Herbert’s musical abilities and use of digital technology have allowed him to do this from a radically different perspective, resulting in a compelling and thought-provoking performance.

“Herbert succeeded in making us vividly aware of the source of our food, but also left us hungry for more.”
- Daily Telegraph

8 PM – JAYGO BLOOM – VJ SET – AT DROUTHY’S

For those of you who need to let your hair down after an action-packed day, please join us at Drouthy’s from 8 pm onwards for an audiovisual set from artist and VJ Jaygo Bloom. Jaygo has also created the Bom-Baze project for this year's NEoN festival and will be making his Dundee performance début in Drouthy’s following the Indie Game and One Pig events.

With so many activities to engage and entertain, this year's NEoN Launch will certainly be a Premier Party, definitely not one to be missed. See you there – it’s going to be fun!
