THEME 2012: MOVEMENT

4th-10th November 2012

NEoN Digital Arts Festival 2012: Investigating, encouraging and exploring the movement between the physical and virtual environment.

NEoN – the international digital arts festival – returned to Dundee in November 2012 featuring moving image, performance, music and technology-driven arts. The year’s theme involved exploring movement between physical and virtual environments.

North East of North (NEoN) is a seven-day international digital arts festival based in Dundee featuring moving image, performance, music and technology-driven arts. The festival delivers a packed programme of talks, workshops, exhibitions, commissions, screenings, performance and more at many of Dundee’s cultural, business and public spaces. Encouraging an exchange of knowledge in areas such as new business models, digital developments and latest production techniques, NEoN expands the notion that art, digital media and gaming can come together to explore new collaborations, opening up new and exciting projects.
NEoN 2012 ran between the 4th-10th November with the theme of movement whether that be digital information moving around a city or exploring movement between the physical and virtual.

Continuing the festival’s success into its fourth consecutive year, organisers worked closely with many local enterprises, ensuring that audiences were able to attend and take part in an extensive programme. Workshops, talks and the popular Pecha Kucha event accompanied exhibitions, performance and sound installations.

Donna Holford-Lovell, Curator of NEoN said that “Audiences can now ‘roam’ in ways never imagined. Their experiences stretch across remote desktops and into virtualised applications, then back again into the physical. This year NEoN will be investigating, encouraging and exploring the movement between these environments.”
